Programs
The Mount Vernon Triangle Community Improvement District funds programs that promote a clean and safe neighborhood. The CID also raises public awareness of the Triangle through its website, broadcast emails, quarterly newsletters, press releases, and special events, such as park clean-ups and walking tours of the Triangle through Walking Town DC.
Started in June 2005, The Triangle's Clean Team members work seven hours a day, seven days a week, between the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. sweeping up the area. The Clean Team is affiliated with Gospel Rescue Ministries through the Ready to Work program. In December 2009, MVTCID was awarded another grant from the Department of Small and Local Business Development to expand the Clean Team by adding two part-time landscapers to maintain the 240 tree boxes and six parks in Mount Vernon Triangle.
In August 2007, MVTCID launched its safety services by hiring an MPD officer through Reimbursable Detail Thursday though Saturday nights. Thanks to an MPD grant, we are now able to have two officers on Friday and Saturday nights. The officers foster a welcoming environment throughout the community and improve public safety.
Other MVTCID initiatives include homeless outreach, planning, streetscape coordination, park improvements, transit, job training, and economic development. Together, these initiatives create a comprehensive revitalization strategy for the Mount Vernon Triangle neighborhood.
