Washington, D.C., January 21, 2009 – Mount Vernon Triangle Community Improvement District is partnering with Casey Trees and the Department of Parks & Recreation to plant 39 trees in the Triangle Park (1089 Park) located at 2nd Street and H Street and Massachusetts Avenue, NW. This grant was made possible through a partnership with the Mount Vernon Triangle Community Improvement District, DC Department of Parks & Recreation and Casey Trees, which is providing the trees. “We are so happy to be given these 39 trees to plant in the Triangle Park,” said Renee Childers, Operations Manager of the Mount Vernon Triangle Community Improvement District. “This means a great deal to the community to improve our park and develop our partnership with the Department of Parks & Recreation.”
On Thursday, February 26th a community meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Second Baptist Church, located at 816 Third Street, NW, to learn about the plans for the park. Residents who signed up to help plant and maintain the trees in the Triangle Park will be briefed about the revised design for the landscape and the tree-planting event on March 27th.
"I am pleased that DPR was able to partner with the Mount Vernon Triangle Community Improvement District and the Casey Trees Foundation in an effort to beautify the Triangle Park, stated Clark Ray, director of the Department of Parks & Recreation. “This is another example of what can be achieved when community, business, and government organizations join together."
The mission of Casey Trees is to restore, enhance, and protect the tree canopy of the nation’s Capital. Casey Trees was made possible by the generosity of Betty Brown Casey, a longtime area resident and philanthropist who made a generous donation through the Garden Club of America to establish an endowment for a new nonprofit organization for the District of Columbia in 2001: Casey Trees.
