SUMMARY:New Year's Intentions w/ Drums at Bhakti Yoga
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Let’s begin 2020 by setting intentions for the year ahead! Come join the Bhakti Yoga Women’s Circle as Danielle Barrios hosts our discussion on what it means to be intentional in life\, in our words\, and in our actions. Danielle will guide an intention setting exercise and personal goal card creation to keep us on track in the year ahead. \nWe will also drum in the new year\, uniting us to create energy for the powerful year ahead. Jen Young will share a bit about meditative and medicine drumming. \nHost Bios\nDanielle completed her 200-hour yoga teacher training at Bhakti Yoga DC in 2019. She started practicing yoga as a way to help her deal with the stress and anxiety of modern city life. In yoga\, she found a practice that transformed her physically\, emotionally\, and spiritually. Danielle has a deep desire to share her love of yoga and its benefits with all those around her. Originally from Los Angeles\, she is also a certified level 1 Reiki (energy) healer. \nJen Young (ERYT-200) teaches yoga and meditation classes throughout DC. Jen has guided women’s circles since 2015 and participated in women’s circles since 2013. Her passion for women’s circles comes from the healing and empowerment that gathering\, sharing\, journeying and expressing among a circle of women have created in Jen’s own life. Jen guides women’s healing journeys in group and solo settings. She also offers sound healing experiences\, plant medicine ceremonies and health/wellness coaching with medical astrology readings.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”3918″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Chaia Tacos: Rising Voices! How Men Be Allies in the Workplace
DESCRIPTION:A conversation with activist writer Soraya Chemaly\, author of Rage Becomes Her\, and constitutional law professor and US Congressman Jamie Raskin. Since October 2017\, the #MeToo movement has forced a reckoning. From clear-cut cases of assault\, harassment\, and misogyny to poor communication\, bad dates\, and uncomfortable situations—Americans continue to wrestle with what gender and power mean in the workplace and in personal relationships. What fundamental changes\, if any\, have happened over the last two years? What is the next chapter of the movement? Donation proceeds will benefit the DC Volunteer Lawyers Project (DCVLP) and will be followed by a Q + A and drinks and tacos. \n  \nTopics might include: navigating #MeToo in the workplace\, #MeToo backlash\, hostility in the workplace\, status anxiety\, and “mentoring v. sponsorship” (actively advocating and promoting YOU -disrupts institutional bias). \n\nLEARN MORE AND RSVP HERE: Eventbrite link to the event.

SUMMARY:MVT Art Event: MVT Event: Does the "Public" Have a Role in Public Art?
DESCRIPTION:As part of our Perspectives series of public programming inspired by the installation of One by Hiroshi Jacobs\, the MVT CID invites you to join us for thought-provoking conversation on the public’s role in public art on Tuesday\, February 4 from 7-9 PM at A Baked Joint. \nWhen we put art into public spaces\, whether in a museum or a sidewalk\, we open up the conversation to a diversity of opinions and interpretations. Every person connects with art differently\, especially when we feel like it belongs to us due to its presence in the public realm. How does art in public space change our perception and interpretation of it? What obligation does the artist have to the public when creating art for the public? What is art’s responsibility – if any – in inspiring social change? \nJoin us for stimulating conversation and perspective sharing on these and related questions with the following expert panelists: \n\nGeorge Hemphill\, owner of Hemphill Fine Arts in Mount Vernon Triangle;\nHiroshi Jacobs\, artist and creator of the One public art sculptures in Mount Vernon Triangle;\nRose Jaffe\, renowned local artist and muralist; and\nPhilippa Hughes\, social sculptor and event moderator.\n\nLight bites and beverages will be provided\, and a cash bar is available. Admission is free but please kindly RSVP by Thursday\, January 30. \n  \n[RSVP FOR EVENT]
