The project is designed to improve safety conditions with the addition of high visibility cross walks\, new bike lanes\, and ADA compliant infrastructure. The work will last for approximately 20 months and will convert a one-way configuration on New Jersey Avenue into a two-way design and reconstruct a portion of New York Avenue. \nThere will be temporary lane closures on New Jersey Avenue NW during off-peak hours from 9:30am-3:30pm Monday through Friday\, and from 9:00am-7:00pm on Saturdays. During the construction work on New York Avenue NW\, two lanes of traffic will be maintained in both directions at all times. At least one southbound lane of New Jersey Ave NW to New York Avenue NW will be maintained at all times during construction. A through lane on northbound New Jersey Avenue and one right turn lane onto New York Avenue NW will be maintained at all times. He is one of the hosts of DC’s longest running open mic series\, Spit Dat\, as well as a member of the Busboys and Poets hosting team for the 5th & K location. \nIn addition to featured readings at every Busboys and Poets location\, SAGAfest Iceland 2015\, Spirits and Lyrics NYC and Manassas\, Woolly Mammoth Theater\, and the C2EA “We Can End AIDS” march\, Dwayne’s short form poetry prowess led him to win the Best Haiku Award at the 2011 National Underground Spoken-Word Poetry Awards (NUSPA). His work to increase HIV awareness through spoken-word garnered recognition from the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation\, BBCAmerica\, the Discovery Channel\, and The Washington Post. \nUltimately\, his goal is to force his audience to feel. He tends to meet goals. When not documenting his life through poetic meter\, he can be found on the metro making scarves and hats\, or singing karaoke. \nfeaturing: Luna the Poet \nLuna is a DC Native who believes that if your ship doesn’t sail in\, swim out to meet it. She feels that every dream is attainable if you’re willing to put in the work to reach those dreams. So that is exactly what she’s done! Since establishing herself as a spoken word artist in the DMV\, Luna self-published a collection of poetry entitled\, “Welcome Me\,” which was released in 2010. Luna’s artistry spans far beyond the poetry spectrum. She is also a skilled natural hair stylist operating an in-home salon\, an expert crocheter creating unique one-of-a-kind crocheted items\, as well as a visual artist using platforms from paint to photography to portray her vision. Her most prized achievement is running Island Moon Catering\, a full service vegetarian catering company\, which includes personal chef services and take-home orders. \n* * * \nFor two hours\, audiences can expect a diverse chorus of voices and a vast array of professional spoken word performers\, open mic rookies\, musicians and a different host every week.
