He is one of the hosts of DC’s longest running open mic series\, Spit Dat\, as well as a member of the Busboys and Poets hosting team for the 5th & K location. \nIn addition to featured readings at every Busboys and Poets location\, SAGAfest Iceland 2015\, Spirits and Lyrics NYC and Manassas\, Woolly Mammoth Theater\, and the C2EA “We Can End AIDS” march\, Dwayne’s short form poetry prowess led him to win the Best Haiku Award at the 2011 National Underground Spoken-Word Poetry Awards (NUSPA). His work to increase HIV awareness through spoken-word garnered recognition from the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation\, BBCAmerica\, the Discovery Channel\, and The Washington Post. \nUltimately\, his goal is to force his audience to feel. He tends to meet goals. When not documenting his life through poetic meter\, he can be found on the metro making scarves and hats\, or singing karaoke. \nfeaturing: Luna the Poet \nLuna is a DC Native who believes that if your ship doesn’t sail in\, swim out to meet it. She feels that every dream is attainable if you’re willing to put in the work to reach those dreams. So that is exactly what she’s done! Since establishing herself as a spoken word artist in the DMV\, Luna self-published a collection of poetry entitled\, “Welcome Me\,” which was released in 2010. Luna’s artistry spans far beyond the poetry spectrum. She is also a skilled natural hair stylist operating an in-home salon\, an expert crocheter creating unique one-of-a-kind crocheted items\, as well as a visual artist using platforms from paint to photography to portray her vision. Her most prized achievement is running Island Moon Catering\, a full service vegetarian catering company\, which includes personal chef services and take-home orders. \n* * * \nFor two hours\, audiences can expect a diverse chorus of voices and a vast array of professional spoken word performers\, open mic rookies\, musicians and a different host every week. SUMMARY:CulturalDC's Mobile Art Gallery: Ongoing Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]CulturalDC’s Mobile Art Gallery exhibit: Nara Park’s ‘Enduring Marks’\nCulturalDC’s Mobile Art Gallery\, a 40-foot shipping container transformed into a solar powered exhibition space\, is located in MVT’s Milian Park. The gallery is now showcasing the work of Nara Park\, one of the area’s most prominent rising young artists. Park is a sculptor and structural artist living and working in Washington\, DC whose artwork was recently acquired by The Phillips Collection. In the ‘Enduring Marks’ exhibit Park will present textile prints of digital collages exploring the imprints of childhood. She combines the images of her childhood artworks and writings from age five to eight with photographs of rock surfaces and mosses as if a child has left the marks on stone. Her work is based on the idea of marks on stones comes from ancient cave paintings that serve as the oldest records of human existence. In the exhibit\, guests will see Park’s images from her early life experiences\, as Park is interested in how early childhood experiences have lasting emotional and psychological effects and influence to shape who we are. \nFee: Free and open to all\, walk-ins welcome![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”1503″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
