SUMMARY:"TWO X" at HEMPHILL
DESCRIPTION:HEMPHILL is pleased to announce the group exhibition TWO X\, opening on Saturday\, November 9\, 2024\, from 4 – 7 p.m. The exhibition will remain on view through December 21\, 2024. \nTWO X is a modest visual essay intent on encouraging a deeper look at the connectedness of all art by pairing the pieces of artists of different generations. The exhibition avoids the traditional monographic perspective of period\, style\, or an individual artist’s work – often too easily explained in words. Instead\, we challenge the viewer to feel the personal commonality between two artists and\, from there\, the communal nature of all art experiences. \nTWO X includes works by: \nBENNY ANDREWS / MELVIN L. NESBITT JR. \nLEON BERKOWITZ / WAYSON JONES \nFRANCES CRISS / KEVIN MACDONALD \nJOSEPH MILLS / SHAUNTE GATES \nNORMAN LEWIS / ROBIN ROSE \nALMA THOMAS / JULIE WOLFE \nOTHO BRANSON / RURI YI

SUMMARY:JULIE WOLFE | The Beholder Book Event & Signing at HEMPHILL
DESCRIPTION:The Beholder \nJulie Wolfe x PAN \n  \nBook Event & Signing \nHEMPHILL Artworks \nNovember 23\, 2024 \n11 am \nHEMPHILL is pleased to announce Julie Wolfe’s newest publication in collaboration with Pan & The Dream\, The Beholder.  Please join us on Saturday\, November 23\, 2024\, for the book event & signing with artist\, Julie Wolfe. \n  \nWe remember Rococo by its trifles: rose-coloured macarons\, powdered cheeks\, everything tied up in bows. We think less of the fear that trembled beneath this surface\, the blistering friction of their glossy world pressed up against the air of unrest outside. It appears\, as the mirror of history reflects Rococo back to us\, that the tender and sickly sweet detail of the period stood at odds with its gruesome end. But when Robespierre walked through the wreckage of the monarchy with murderous lust\, onlookers reported that the buttons of his coat were engraved with miniature golden guillotines. \n  \nIn The Beholder\, Artist Julie Wolfe and PAN partnered with a collective of photographers\, writers and artists working in a wide range of disciplines to tell the story of the Rococo era as a reflection on today\, excess\, carelessness\, political unrest and increasing wealth inequity. Within the book\, one will find those that position themselves in this choreographed interplay\, that live and move in a world of fiction\, and express the strange passion for self-escape that is at the heart of the Rococo period. \n  \nThis large format book presents a trove of curiosities through lift out\, full page spreads that hold their own rich meaning. But together\, and especially as they are partially concealed by folding\, one finds an even more enchanting conversation awaits. The artwork and imagery and the relationships to each other become at once half of themselves and something else entirely when bound together in this way. A physical and metaphysical meeting in the middle that tumbles back and forth\, teasing a universe of appreciation if one simply turns the pages and wishes to see. \nThe Beholder will be available for purchase for $125. There will be a limited number of copies available during the event at HEMPHILL on November 23\, 2024. \nClick here to RSVP. \nThis event coincides with the exhibition\, TWO X\, on view at HEMPHILL from November 9 through December 21\, 2024.

SUMMARY:ANC 6E Monthly Meeting
DESCRIPTION:This is the monthly meeting of ANC 6E\, your local advisory neighborhood commission. All are welcome to attend. \nPlease visit anc6e.org for the full agenda and link to join. \nWhat is an ANC? \nAn ANC is a non-partisan\, neighborhood body made up of locally elected\, unpaid representatives. The ANCs’ main job is to be the official voice representing residents\, business owners\, and other neighborhood stakeholders before the District government (and Federal agencies) on events that affect their neighborhoods. Although they are not required to follow the ANCs’ advice\, District agencies are required to give the ANCs’ recommendations “great weight.”

SUMMARY:Sound Bath & Reiki Experience
DESCRIPTION:We invite you to join us for a new holistic offering at Vida Fitness of Sound Bath & Reiki. Peyton Gosser (RYT-500) is a Yoga Alliance Certified Sound Ceremony Facilitator and Reiki Practitioner based in tradition\, honoring the teachers and mentors that have shared their wisdom along her journey. Peyton will welcome each of you into the studio with an optional energy clearing sage\, a “yes” or “no” coaster to place next to your mat to indicate if you would like to receive Reiki\, proceeded by the facilitator guiding you to a cozy spot of your choice. Optional props such as eye masks\, blankets and bolsters will be provided to help you optimize relaxation as you settle in to receive sound. \nDuring the community session\, you will receive the vibrations\, harmony and resonance through a carefully crafted journey of sound. Peyton will be using an array of instruments such as crystal singing bowls\, bells\, tuning forks\, tongue drum\, chimes\, frame drum\, kalimba\, flute\, and low frequency humming\, gentle and intuitive singing of vowel sounds\, and flute to bring you into a state of deep relaxation\, and for some\, perhaps sleep. It is normal to go deep during sound ceremony as the sounds flow through the body\, allowing the mind to drift where it pleases. It is normal to feel peaceful\, sleepy\, sensations of heat or tingling\, or possibly see visuals such as shapes or colors dancing behind the eyes. The session will close with option hands-off Reiki for anyone who has their card flipped to “yes.” \nSound ceremony is a gathering in the reverence and presence of sound. It is communion in vibration; and equally a contemplative inquiry and listening meditation on the life\, spirit and source of sound. Reiki is an ancient healing method that manipulates energy flow in the body to unblock stuck energy and allow more ease for flow in the body and mind. \nTo RSVP for this event please email Alexa at adisch@vidafitness.com. Spots are limited!
