Mobile Art Gallery Featuring Exhibit “Enduring Marks” by Nara Park Opens Friday, 11/16

Thursday November 15, 2018

Join the MVT CID and CulturalDC as we celebrate the Mount Vernon Triangle opening of the Mobile Art Gallery and its Enduring Marks exhibit by Nara Park this Friday, November 16 from 5-8pm! Sponsored by the MVT CID supported with generous  financial support from Pepco and Paradigm Development Corporation – owners of the Meridian at Gallery Place and Meridian at Mount Vernon Triangle apartment communities – the Mobile Art Gallery is a fully renovated 40-foot shipping container transformed into a solar-powered exhibition space for local artists to share vibrant artistic experiences with communities across the District. Friday’s Community Kick-Off event will feature local bites, live music by Emma G., Benjamin Gates and Pebble to Peal, and an engaging installation by one of the area’s most prominent rising young artists whose artwork was recently acquired by The Phillips Collection.

In Enduring Marks, Park – a sculptor and structural artist living and working in Washington, DC – will present textile prints of digital collages exploring the imprints of childhood. She combines the images of her childhood artworks and writings from age five to eight with photographs of rock surfaces and mosses as if a child has left the marks on stone. Her work is based on the idea of marks on stones, similar to ancient cave paintings that serve as the oldest records of human existence. In the exhibit, guests will see Park’s images from her early life experiences, as Park is interested in how early childhood experiences have lasting emotional and psychological effects and influence to shape who we are. During the event participants will be invited to engage with Park’s large digital prints of her childhood drawings on rocky surfaces displayed with ceiling to floor sheet drawings. Learn more about Park’s work at naraparkstudio.com.

Guests at the Community Kick-Off will receive special offers from the following participating MVT-area restaurants on Friday evening by showing their Eventbrite ticket confirmation or postcard from the event:

The Mobile Art Gallery will be open Wednesdays-Sundays from 11am-7pm through February 1, 2019, and is located in Milian Park located at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue NW, 5th Street NW and I Street NW.
