New HEMPHILL Exhibit Reflects Artist’s Creative Response to the Pandemic

Friday April 9, 2021

All artists with whom HEMPHILL currently works have been impacted by the pandemic in some way. These impacts are shown in their work, with some in subtle changes in studio operations and others more in content. Some are creating pictures of our experiences, while others predict where we are headed.

Artist Robin Rose (American, born 1946) is no exception. During the pandemic, Rose retreated from Washington, DC to his Delaware beach cabin to create the paintings for his Spring 2021 show. As the work progressed, it became apparent that each painting would make tangible his internal responses to conditions created by the pandemic and the political madness of the past year. There are 19 different paintings in the exhibit currently on display at HEMPHILL.

Robin Rose: 19 Paintings is concurrent with Hedieh Javanshir Ilchi: Listen to the night as it makes itself hollow on view at HEMPHILL April 1 – May 28, 2021. HEMPHILL is open Tuesday-Saturday by advance appointment only. To schedule a private visit, please contact gallery@hemphillartworks.com or call (202) 234-5601.
