Plaza West Groundbreaking: 233-Unit Community to Include Grandfamily Apartments

Sunday July 17, 2016

On June 20, MVT CID President, Kenyattah Robinson and Board of Directors Vice Chair, Berk Shervin, joined Bible Way Church (represented by MVT CID Board Member Yvonne Williams) and Mission First Housing as they celebrated the official groundbreaking for Plaza West, a 233-unit apartment community at 307 K Street that includes affordable family housing as well as 50 units set aside for low-income grandparents who are raising the children of family members who, for a variety of reasons, are not able to do so themselves. Mayor Muriel Bowser and Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen, along with many other community and government leaders, were on hand to commemorate the event.  For more information, click here for a story about the groundbreaking from the Washington City Paper and here for a story from The Washington Post that explores the grandfamily aspect of the project more fully.
