High Honors for MVT’s Toldson & McFLY

Friday January 14, 2022

Building community requires the efforts of many, and today we honor and congratulate the achievements of two community champions whose leadership behind the scenes has been instrumental to the success of both our MVT CID neighborhood and organization.

In December, Tommy + Kelly Show podcast co-host, television correspondent, and MVT resident Tommy McFly was honored as a 2021 Washingtonian Magazine “Washingtonian of the Year” for being one of the “[t]en locals who make our region an even better place.” From the article:

Whether McFly is emceeing the White House Easter-egg roll or delivering thousands of Georgetown Cupcakes to teachers, his mission is more than entertainment—it’s building community. “We’re given a microphone and social-media presence,” he says. “If you don’t use your platform for good, you don’t deserve it.”

McFly has indeed used his platform for good by partnering with MVT CID on community-enhancing efforts such as realizing a bold new vision for a “re-imagined” Cobb Park to serve as an iconic open and artistic space, destination, and gateway into Mount Vernon Triangle and downtown DC; and our recent proposal for grant funding from the DC Office of Planning through its “Streets for People” program to re-imagine new, creative, and innovative ways to leverage and activate downtown public spaces to revitalize central Washington and facilitate economic recovery.

And earlier this month, Dr. Ivory Toldson – Professor of counseling psychology at Howard University, author, long-time MVT property owner, and multi-term MVT CID Board Memberwas recognized among the nation’s top scholars in education in the 2022 Edu-Scholar Public Influence Rankings. The annual list ranks the top 200 scholars based on their influence on academic scholarship, and public debate as reflected in old and new media. As a steady presence on the MVT CID Executive Committee, Dr. Toldson’s thoughtful perspective and dynamic influence has been instrumental in shaping an organizational vision that supports both current and future needs important to our continued long-term growth.

Congratulations to Tommy McFly and Dr. Ivory Toldson for this well-deserved recognition. And thanks for all that you both do to make #LifeInMVT special for everyone who lives, works, does business, and entertains in our community!
