Statement from the MVT CID Regarding Signature Forms/Surveys Re: Cobb Park

Thursday February 2, 2017

The Mount Vernon Triangle Community Improvement District (MVT CID) is aware of signature forms and surveys being taken in areas around the community regarding support for an alternative plan for Cobb Park and for programmed park and other active-use space on New Jersey Avenue. What’s more, it has come to our attention that a number of stakeholders believe that the MVT CID is connected with this effort. We think it’s important for the community to know that the MVT CID is NOT the organization conducting the survey. We would encourage our residents, office workers, visitors and other stakeholders to carefully vet any surveys or signature forms offered to them up to and including asking the petitioner for details about the purpose and source of the survey. Our concern is that your support could be given – and then represented – without your knowing important perspectives, details and alternatives.

Again, the MVT CID has not taken a position on the proposal at this time but does caution stakeholders to carefully use their best judgment when vetting the request for support.
