Autumn Markets Continue, Market Extension Feedback Request & Thanksgiving Turkey Pre-Orders!
Thursday October 8, 2020
With brisk air, sunshine and minimal chance of rain in the forecast, Saturday is a perfect day to enjoy fall in Mount Vernon Triangle with our morning and afternoon markets! Interested in continuing the market through winter, learning where things stand on landing a new meat vendor and/or pre-ordering a fresh Thanksgiving turkey? Read below to learn more.
Winter Market Poll
Among the COVID-19 silver linings has been our community’s continued strong support of the FRESHFARM Mount Vernon Triangle Market. In addition to serving as a valuable food security resource for residents and neighbors, it has also provided a financial lifeline to our local and regional farmers, growers and producers. And with winter fast approaching, vendors have expressed an interest in continuing to serve our community beyond the current November 21 market end date, subject to continued customer demand. Let us know if you’re interested in a winter farmers market by sharing your thoughts in our short, three-question pulse poll.
Saturday’s FRESHFARM MVT Market
After taking the poll, get your shopping list ready for our weekly FRESHFARM MVT Market from 9am-1pm at 5th & Eye Streets NW where you can score all of your fall seasonal ingredients. Visit the FRESHFARM MVT Market page on MountVernonTriangle.org for a complete list of vendors, market rules, a market map, and time-saving tips such as reserving a shopping time on OpenTable and using the pre-order and pick-up options
Status of Replacement Meat Vendor
Despite well-publicized disruptions in the supply chain for meat products, FRESHFARM continues to make progress in identifying a permanent meat vendor to replace Orchard Breeze Farm. We hope to make that announcement soon but, in the interim, encourage market customers to continue patronizing Sunnyside Farm for beef, chicken and pork products.
Speaking of Meat: Now Accepting Thanksgiving Turkey Pre-Orders!
What’s more, Sunnyside Farms is also taking pre-orders for fresh, pasture-raised turkey prepared to be refrigerated (not frozen) until Thanksgiving Day. Visit the Sunnyside Flowers website to choose your pick-up location and pay your $40 deposit—or, visit the market this Saturday and Dru will walk you through it! You can also email her to learn more. A balance of $6 per pound is due when the turkey is picked up the Saturday before Thanksgiving, with each turkey averaging approximately 14 pounds.
