Clean Team Chronicles: Fence Repair at Cobb Park

Thursday August 12, 2021

Mount Vernon Triangle is a clean, safe, and welcoming community due in large part to the hard work of our Clean Team Ambassadors. They provide a consistent presence within the community working on everything from clearing snow and ice from our sidewalks during the winter months to delivering thousands of daily meals to “grandfamilies” – grandparents raising their grandkids – at the onset of the COVID-19 public health emergency. They truly create a space that allows our community to flourish.

Every day, the MVT Clean Team Ambassadors step up to the plate, which is why we want to highlight their tremendous efforts to maintain our community’s upkeep and appearance. As reported in last week’s Triangle Times, the District Council voted to add an additional $1.5 million in the city’s fiscal year 2022 capital budget to achieve the community’s strong and overwhelming desire to “re-imagine” Cobb Park; and to begin the 1.2-acre park’s transformation into an iconic destination, civic and gathering space, and gateway into Mount Vernon Triangle and downtown DC.

Currently, temporary fencing is in place to protect this asset as efforts to revitalize the park start to get underway. Unfortunately, this fence collapsed during a recent summer storm, but our Clean Team Ambassadors stepped in and took the task head on. As quickly as it went down, they were able to get the barrier upright and have everything ready for the next steps the park’s development.

Issues like this happen every day, and our Clean Team Ambassadors do everything in their power to address these problems before our community even notices. This goes to show that they’re not just ambassadors of our community, but leaders when it comes to making MVT the place it is today.
