Coming Soon to MVT: 2fifty Barbecue!

Friday July 7, 2023

Yep, you “herd” that right there’s a new barbecue joint hitting the block!

Washington Post food reporter and smoked meats connoisseur Tim Carman broke the news on Twitter yesterday that his favorite smokehouse, 2fifty BBQ, is headed to MVT by early next year. Described by Carman in his 2022 review as “Central Texas barbecue with Central American Soul,” Salvadoran co-founders and husband & wife team Fernando Gonzales and Debby Portillo will be bringing their renowned wood-fired meats and “a pinch of the tropics” to the former Toscana Market space (414 K Street NW) first via their smokehouse in Riverdale Park before ultimately building a dedicated smokehouse in the back of the shop. Everything will be first come, first serve and they will stay open until they sell out of meat for the day, so plan to come early!

Welcome to the neighborhood, Fernando and Debby! We’re “cow”nting down the days until we can try your slow-cooked Wagyu and Prime brisket here in MVT!

For Toscana Market customers curious where to find their handmade pastas, Italian wine, regional Italian dinner boxes, and tasty Bomboloni: Chef Daniele tells Triangle Times that his Italian market and grocery store will be moving all its retail store products online with delivery available across the entire DMV. What’s more, cooking classes will be conducted in a bigger space at Union Market’s La Cosecha marketplace where more than one class per day featuring different international cuisines can be offered while also accommodating private events as well as increasingly popular office gatherings.
