DC Announces Updated Snow Clearing Rules

Thursday January 7, 2016

Although it has been a mild winter, it’s important to be prepared for the possibility of snow. The DC Department of Public Works has released, and will be enforcing, the Winter Sidewalk Safety Act, which imposes a fine on District property owners who fail to remove snow and ice from the sidewalks, curb cuts and curb ramps abutting their property within 8 hours of day light after snow has stopped falling. Click here for the full ordinance and here for guidance on applying for an exemption for single family residents who are disabled or are over 65. While the MVT CID Clean Team is prepared to assist in common areas, it is the responsibility of each property owner to clear their property sidewalks and access points.
