Don’t Spin Your Wheels, New Metro Bus Network Takes Effect Sunday, June 29!

Friday May 30, 2025

We are passing along a quick reminder to our Triangle Times readers that major changes are coming to the DC bus network. Better Bus is WMATA’s initiative to improve urban and regional bus service throughout the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia. Described by WMATA as “The largest overhaul in over 50 years,” the Better Bus initiative— taking effect on Sunday, June 29 — is set to reroute and rename a majority of Metro Bus routes. Reforms to bus routes and names can be viewed directly on WMATA’s “Upcoming Changes” web page. Additional route finding tools for the new system include WMATA’s “Find My New Route” feature and Metro’s Trip Planner mobile application, where impending changes have been made available to view.

Consistent with the rest of the District, Metro Bus service in Mount Vernon Triangle will be impacted, namely the Metro Bus P6, X2, 80, 96, D4, 33, and 64 routes. The Mount Vernon Square Neighborhood Profile below exhibits the transformed system, beginning late next month.
