Experience the Making of LINLING LU, HEMPHILL’S First Exhibition at its MVT Location

Tuesday April 28, 2020

Hemphill Artworks (“HEMPHILL”) invites you to enjoy this behind-the-scenes look at the making of its latest exhibition, LINLING LU. Hailed as “Lu’s most ambitious and spectacular exhibition to date,” the exhibition was originally scheduled for early April as the gallery’s first exhibition following its highly anticipated relocation to 440 K Street NW earlier this year. Now postponed due to COVID-19, the exhibition has been repositioned as an online, virtual experience.

“My work is nurtured by my Chinese heritage but is also inspired by many artists from all over the world. The work has become more universal vs. from a single perspective. I envision it being accompanied by drum-heavy music because the music is very abstract and the instrument is circular; without looking at the performance, there are many similarities to drum pieces from Africa, Native America and West Asia – it is a universal instrument and universal music.” Linling Lu, 2020

HEMPHILL also invites you to receive its periodic updates about artworks – such as an artwork image, artist and artwork information and related commentary – to pass the time and satisfy your cultural curiosity as you continue to socially distance at home. As explained by the gallery: “Our goal is to use our digital platforms to provide relief, connection and entertainment during these uncertain times. Sometime these posts will be serious, sometimes funny, often thought-provoking, and beautiful. Ignore, delete or respond if you feel inspired.” —Linling Lu, 2020
