HEMPHILL’s Fall 2020 Season Continues with Wildfires and Dreamfields by Julie Wolfe
Thursday November 5, 2020
As a continuation of its Fall 2020 showcase of various artworks by contemporary and historic artists, HEMPHILL is now featuring the work of Julie Wolfe, whose Wildfires and Dreamfields exhibit is on display at the gallery through November 25.
In Wildfires and Dreamfields, Wolfe both physically and figuratively deconstructs her own book published in 2019 to superimpose images that probe the power of the subconscious at a new level of intensity and unrest. This investigation depends on the “double exposure” of screen printing to reveal vivid vignettes recalling our wildest dreams and our strangest visions. Wolfe honors the surreal cinema of our subconscious as an endless source of intrigue as we attempt to adapt and understand our collective existence. To introduce the exhibit, HEMPHILL recently released a video that surveys the suite of five prints on display in the gallery and explores the artist’s process creating the limited-edition Artist Book.
Wildfires and Dreamfields is the latest installment in a previously announced seasonal series of artworks on display at HEMPHILL. Each presentation of work will be introduced by a short video that explores aspects of its creation, provides information about the artist, and surveys key details. The videos will premiere online, in an invitation-only Zoom gathering, followed by broader distribution through various digital platforms, social media outlets, and the gallery website. Artworks featured in the videos will be installed in the gallery for in-person viewing.
HEMPHILL is open Tuesday-Saturday by advance appointment only. To schedule a private visit, please contact gallery@hemphillartworks.com or call (202) 234-5601.
