It’s Finally Here: Cobb Park Opens to the Public Tomorrow, February 13
Thursday February 12, 2026
Here’s a bit of good news sliding into your inbox as we approach the long weekend: Cobb Park officially opens to the public tomorrow, February 13!
The partial opening of our new 1.2-acre District-park represents a decade of advocacy alongside and on behalf of our Mount Vernon Triangle community. This includes MVT CID’s investment toward defining and strategically prioritizing the community’s open space needs through our MVT Open Space Study’s community planning process and report in 2018; and MVT CID President & CEO Kenyattah Robinson’s public testimony to the District Council in June 2021 that led to acquisition of significant capital funding for Cobb Park’s construction in the FY 2022 District budget.
We’re thrilled to have reached this significant milestone that brings us one step closer toward realizing the vision of this iconic open and artistic space, destination, and gateway into Mount Vernon Triangle and downtown DC that our community has continuously advocated for it to be. In addition to adding significant value to the quality of life for current residents, workers, and visitors, Cobb Park also enhances MVT’s appeal to the thousands of future students, faculty, and staff at Georgetown University’s Capitol Campus in downtown’s East End—contributing to MVT’s long-term sustainability in every possible way.
MVT CID is deeply grateful to Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen for his strong, steady, and vocal advocacy of this project. MVT CID also thanks key members of the Cobb Park project team from DC’s Departments of Parks and Recreation and General Services – earning MVT CID’s Partners of the Year Award at our 2025 Annual Meeting – as well as lead builder Bennett Group for their continued dedication to the delivery of this project. Additional local and federal organizations integral to Cobb Park’s redevelopment include DC’s Departments of Buildings, Energy & Environment, Planning, and Transportation; the U.S. Commission on Fine Arts; and Advisory Neighborhood Commission 6E.
Finally, we extend our sincerest gratitude to all of you! From consistently sharing feedback about the need for more greenspace in Mount Vernon Triangle, to remaining patient through setbacks and hurdles during construction, we appreciate you all sticking with us and remaining enthusiastic about the progress of this neighborhood amenity.
Though the west half of the park remains closed due to ongoing construction of The Star Court Pavilion – designed by Andrew Pressman, FAIA and donated through Myrna Sislen’s generous philanthropy – the gates along the 2nd Street NW will open from sunrise to sunset starting tomorrow, allowing the public to access the paths, field, and (most exciting) the playground! We’ll continue to share updates on the Star Court Pavilion’s progress, and look forward to welcoming the community to an official opening celebration later this spring.
But for now, swing by and experience the joy of Mount Vernon Triangle’s newest greenspace, open daily from approximately 8am-Dark—we look forward to seeing you there!
