MVT Celebrates Black History Month: Spotlight on Kaché Co-Owner Jeff Granger

Thursday February 5, 2026

Sunday, February 1 marked the beginning of Black History Month and throughout February, we’re thrilled to bring our Triangle Times readers profiles on some of the business owners and community leaders that contribute to Mount Vernon Triangle’s daily success. We’re starting our series off by highlighting Jeff Granger, co-owner of MVT’s newest restaurant Kaché. Jeff was born and raised in Newark, NJ and attended Hampton University, where he captained the basketball team for three years and led the program to two conference championship titles. After playing professional basketball in Europe, he transitioned into the financial industry. Following a successful career with State Farm, Jeff founded Granger Financial, which he now leads alongside his wife, Ebone, with a mission centered on financial education, community involvement, and empowerment. When seeking a way to expand their entrepreneurial footprint, Jeff and Ebone set their sights on opening a restaurant in “the most powerful places in the world” — Washington, DC.

As a frequent Wizards game attendee, Jeff was often in the Triangle even before he opened Kaché and found the community atmosphere he encountered here both” engaging and intriguing”. Combining that with Mount Vernon Triangle’s, convenient central location made it an easy choice for the future location of Kaché. Now that it’s open, it’s Jeff’s hope that the space will be known “not just as a Black-owned business but as a really well-run business where the community can come together”.

When we recently asked Jeff about the meaning of legacy, he reflected that the word goes beyond the definition of “leaving something for your children’s children” to also compel you to “think of those who came before who laid the groundwork.” For Jeff, it’s just as much about paying tribute to the people who fought and sacrificed to make it so that African Americans can “walk in and own our own space” as it is to leave behind something that is “spoken about after you’re gone”. Design elements within Kaché play into this theme of legacy and remembrance. The interior is crafted in a way that it’s “made to be like grandma’s house,” just as much as it’s set to look like a juke joint pulled straight from the world of the movie “Sinners”. Jeff wanted to create a space that blends subtle old world elements with the “new flavor of DC” and carries the intentional reminders of home beyond the design and into the food with nods to his wife’s Mississippi roots with their “Mimi’s Po Boy” among other quiet references dappled throughout.

Kaché is located at 510 K Street NW and is open Monday-Saturday, offering an array of weekly programming and events like “The Loving Choice” happening on Wednesday, February 11. Make a reservation to explore on your own, and be sure to join us at our Together Tuesdays series next week when we’ll taking over the upstairs “Bar Noir” lounge area and treating the first 50 attendees to a selection of the bar’s expertly crafted cocktails and zero-proof drinks courtesy of Claret Apartments.

Thank you again to Jeff for taking some time of your busy week to chat with us for this profile. We’re so excited to have you here in the neighborhood and can’t wait to see your “community watering hole” grow more and more!
