MVT CID Celebrates “20 Years of #LifeInMVT” at 2025 Annual Meeting & Releases FY 2024 Annual Report

At its 2025 Annual Meeting on Wednesday, July 23, Mount Vernon Triangle Community Improvement District (MVT CID) staff, stakeholders, partners, friends, and other invited guests gathered at the recently opened Claret Apartments to celebrate and reflect upon the experiences, knowledge, and perspectives gained during the past 20 years of Mount Vernon Triangle’s growth and evolution into a thriving and inclusive destination to live, work, and visit in the heart of Washington, DC.
The meeting also included release of the FY 2024 Annual Report as well as these key highlights:
- Meeting called to order by MVT CID Board Chair and long-time property owner Berk Shervin whose company – in significant partnership with Quadrangle Development Corporation – has developed many notable properties in Mount Vernon Triangle.
- Host welcome by MVT CID Board Member Lynn Hackney, Principal & Co-Owner of Community Three and builder of Claret Apartments.
- Opening remarks by Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen.
- A “State of the CID” address highlighting Mount Vernon Triangle’s 20-year transformation by MVT CID President & CEO Kenyattah Robinson.
- Keynote remarks by Mayor Muriel Bowser, who shared her thoughts on how DC’s business improvement districts (BIDs) the and District Government can work together to make DC better for all, and complimented MVT CID on both its advocacy and dedication to maintaining clean and safe streets, sidewalks, and alleys.
- Presentation of the Clean Team Recognition & Awards awards by DC Department of Small and Local Development (DSLBD) Director Rosemary Suggs-Evans. MVT CID’s Clean Team program is supported by public-private funding from property owners as well as a grant from DSLBD.
- Presentation of the 2025 Community Stakeholder of the Year Award to The Wilkes Company & Quadrangle Development Corporation in recognition of the partnership’s long-term, significant, and meaningful contributions to Mount Vernon Triangle’s revitalization through their Mount Vernon Place development and broader community involvement.
- Presentation of the 2025 Community Partner of the Year Award to DC Departments of General Services & Parks and Recreation in recognition of their key roles on the Cobb Park project team.
- Presentation of the 2025 Community Catalyst of the Year Award to local musician, writer, educator, entrepreneur, and philanthropist Myrna Sislen for her significant and meaningful “Star Cour Pavilion” philanthropic contribution at Cobb Park.
- Presentation of MVT CID’s FY 2024 Financial Results by MVT CID business owner, property owner, and Board Treasurer Aubrey Stephenson.
- Recognition of outgoing MVT CID Board Chair Berk Shervin by the Rev. Dr. Joseph Evans, a former pastor at Mount Carmel Baptist Church who preceded Berk as Board Chair, and currently serves as the J. Alfred Smith, Sr. Professor of Theology in the Public Square and Director of the Center for Truth, Racial Healing & Restorative Justice at the Berkeley School of Theology.
MVT CID Board Secretary & RASA Co-Founder Rahul Vinod announced that the individuals below were elected by the organization’s Members to serve a three-year term on the MVT CID Board of Directors:
- Adrian Bascom (New Candidate), General Manager, Hampton Inn by Hilton, Downtown DC Convention Center
- Anthony Brown (Renewal Candidate), Safety & Community Engagement Coordinator, Bible Way Church
- Clarence Fluker (Renewal Candidate), Director of Community Engagement, Association of American Medical Colleges
- Samantha Margolis (Renewal Candidate), Chief Administrative Officer & Chief of Staff, AIPAC
After the meeting, guests were invited upstairs to the Claret Wine Lounge and Roof Terrace to enjoy beautiful views of the U.S. Capitol, Washington Monument, and surrounding neighborhood, beverages and bites provided by 2024 RAMW “Best Bar” Winner Bar Chinois, and music from local artist (and Tunes in the Triangle alum!) Gracie Jay.
