MVT CID Partnership with Project Empowerment Keeps Neighborhood Clean & Safe While Enhancing Lives

MVT CID’s fundamental clean and safe work will always remain core to our mission. But as important are our efforts to fill missing gaps, contribute to unmet societal needs and continually work to “lift the bottom” in service to a better and stronger city. And through our close relationship with Project Empowerment, we’re achieving our mission goals while assisting returning citizens who are leaving prison and integrating back into society.

Project Empowerment is a program managed by the District Department of Employment Services (DOES) that assists in finding employment for returning citizens. DOES pays the employees for up to six months, contingent upon being hired permanently at the host site or be assisted in finding other work. Since MVT CID started its participation in the program March 2017:

  • 8 participants have been hosted including MVT CID’s first female Clean Team member
  • 6 participants have been assisted in finding full-time employment around the city including 1 participant being hired full-time at MVT
  • 1 participant had a job interview scheduled at the time of departure from the program
  • 1 remaining participant has attended three job fairs and been invited to three interviews with housing assistance underway
  • 2 more participants will join us in April to help support MVT CID’s landscaping and events management needs
