MVT Residential Momentum Continues with Plaza West & Capitol Vista

September was a busy month in Mount Vernon Triangle as the community continued its progress toward becoming the vibrant and welcoming new downtown neighborhood envisioned in the Mount Vernon Triangle Action Agenda.

In mid-September, Mayor Muriel Bowser, Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen, MVT CID Board Member Yvonne Williams and a host of other local officials, civic leaders and partners celebrated the completion of Plaza West Apartments: the District’s first-ever affordable housing site with specific units for “grandfamilies.” (Read news coverage here). Offering majestic views of our Nation’s Capital, the 223-unit affordable development includes 50 units set-aside for grandparents raising grandchildren.

And in late September, the Mayor and her team returned to Mount Vernon Triangle to break ground on Capitol Vista. Located at 2nd & H Streets NW, the 104-unit project will offer below-market rents and 3,200 square feet of ground floor retail. (Read news coverage here). The Plaza West opening and Capitol Vista groundbreaking culminated an active summer for residential development in Mount Vernon Triangle. In late spring, The Wilkes Company and Quadrangle Development Corporation opened Lydian 400K Apartments featuring 324 rental units and more than 13,000 square feet of ground floor retail. And in June dozens gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking of Liberty Place Apartments at the corner for 3rd & I Streets NW to include 71 new units of affordable housing—including 11 reserved for those with limited mobility, 14 for formerly homeless individuals and 7 for Veterans.
