Ribbon Cutting Welcomes 111 Mass Ave to Georgetown University’s Capitol Campus

Thursday October 23, 2025

On Monday, October 20, Mayor Muriel Bowser and Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen joined Georgetown University Interim President Robert Groves and many university, DC government, and other community leaders for a ceremonial ribbon cutting (see video) to celebrate the state-of-the-art renovation of 111 Massachusetts Avenue NW – one of Mount Vernon Triangle’s largest properties of any type – to serve as the anchor for Georgetown University’s new Capitol Campus in the East End of downtown DC.

With Georgetown’s investment, Capitol Campus will serve as a lively epicenter and educational hub for the nearly 10,000 students, faculty, and staff engaged in coursework in the following programs:

  • Georgetown Law
  • McCourt School of Public Policy
  • Earth Commons Institute
  • School of Continuing Studies
  • McDonough School of Business
  • College of Arts & Sciences
  • Berkley School of Nursing
  • School of Health

Special thanks to Georgetown University’s Chief Operating Officer David Green for recognizing the area’s three improvement districts (including Mount Vernon Triangle CID) in his remarks; and to Councilmember Allen for acknowledging the soon-to-open Cobb Park that will bring 1.2 acres of additional community green space and serve as an iconic open and artistic space, destination, and gateway into Mount Vernon Triangle and downtown DC.
