WUSA9 Segment Touts FRESHFARM Markets as a Safe Place to Shop During Cyclospora Outbreak

Friday July 24, 2026

Okay, we know no one really wants to think about the explosive effects of Cyclospora so we’ll keep this brief: knowing your farmer means knowing your food!

That’s the message FRESHFARM has been sharing about the benefits of shopping local, especially during moments when the national food chain is disrupted. Last Saturday, WUSA9stopped by the FRESHFARM MVT Market to chat with market manager Yuval Lev and veteran vendor Dru Peters of Sunnyside Farm to learn more about  the advantages to shopping at a market where you can speak directly with the producers. And despite the heat and lingering wildfire smoke, Yuval and Dru both reported an uptick in customers during Saturday’s market, which they attributed to people feeling more comfortable with purchasing produce from trusted sources.

We’re proud to support access to this vital local food chain and encourage you to stop by the FRESHFARM MVT Market every Saturday from 9am-1pm at the corners of 5th & I Streets NW. We hope to see you there!
