Stop by Milian Park (499 Massachusetts Avenue NW) on Saturday, May 6 to browse used books for $6 & under and listen to original stories presented by some seriously funny folks!

Carpe Librum will be popping-up from 9am-3:30pm with a selection of lightly used books, CDs, and DVDs all for sale under $6. The proceeds from the sale go to support the nonprofit, Turning the Page which works to provide opportunities for parents to actively participate in their children’s education.

MVT CID has also partnered with Comedy Bonfyre to assemble eight DC-based storytellers to recite their original work in Milian Park from 10:30am-12:30pm. Read more about the performers below:

Kenny Rooster (@kennyroostercomedy

Kenny Rooster is a DC-born queer comedian living in Baltimore, who has been performing at colleges, bars, comedy clubs, and house shows up and down the east coast. When Kenny isn’t cracking up crowds, you can find them doing drag as Dickolas Cage, hosting music bingo games, and aggressively chasing down cute dogs on the street who’s owners clearly don’t want to be bothered. Credits include the Seattle International Comedy Competition, Magoobys Joke House, Stonewall, the Broadway Comedy Club, The Port Comedy Club, The Lou Room Comedy Club, and the DC Comedy Loft

 

Kara Morillo (@karamorillo)

Kara Morillo is a comedian, writer, and storyteller originally from Union, New Jersey, and currently residing in Takoma Park. She has her Ph.D. in English Language and Literature and gender studies. She has performed as a storyteller at Atlas Theater in DC, and she can usually be found performing at open mics around the DMV. Kara studied improv and stand-up comedy at the Washington Improv Theater. 

 

Ambi (@ambidoescomedy)

Ambi is D.C. based comedian, producer and professional hype woman. She is the founder and advisor of the Hysterics, University of Maryland’s comedy group for underrepresented genders.  She is the founder and producer of Comedy Bonfyre, a D.C. based comedy production. She has opened for Nikki Glaser, Aparna Nancherla, Steph Tolev, Ashley Gavin and others. She has worked as a marketing representative for Improbable Comedy and Story District. 

 

Ansa Edim 

Ansa Edim is a storyteller and writer in Washington, D.C. She has performed her wild dating stories on stage in DC’s own Story District and Smut Slam competitions, and in 2022, she became a MothSLAM Champion Storyteller.

 

Ariel Casey (@the_real_widow_ma_casey)

By day, Ariel Casey is the office manager at a law firm in DC. In her personal time she roams the streets of Maryland, DC, and Virginia looking for fun places to tell jokes. She is currently cast as Madame de Katkoff in Henry James’ play “Daisy Miller” which debuts on June 24th, 2023. 

 

Liz Houston (@bookersquared)

Elizabeth Booker Houston is an up-and-coming standup comedian who hails from Memphis, Tennessee and now calls the DC metro area home. Her comedy style is primarily political and dark humor, influenced heavily by her day job as a lawyer. She has performed with the DC Comedy Loft, Room 808, and DC Comedy Clubhouse. When Elizabeth is not on stage, you can find her making jokes and witty commentary on Instagram and TikTok under the handle bookersquared.

 

Davine (@davinedc)

Davine Ker is a trilingual stand-up comedian and multidisciplinary artist.  Her art emerges from thought-provoking jokes, left-field concepts, and unique storytelling that bridges culture, comedy, and music.  She headlines throughout the DC area and also performs as a feature comedian in comedy clubs and festivals from NYC to LA and  Montreal, Canada. Credits include: International Lady Laughs Comedy Festival, Moth StorySlam winner, Funny Bones, Comedy Nest, Kennedy Center and Amazon Prime.

 

Angel Penn (@angelbefunny)

Angel Penn is a Washington DC comic famous for being the loudest laugh at any comedy show and supporting DMV comedy. Finally, he grabbed the mic to host and produce shows in DC, Maryland, and Virginia. He’s performed for the DC Improv, DC Comedy Loft, State Theatre, created Spaghetti on the Beach, and opened-ish for Todd Glass.
