#MVTogether Values Displayed During MLK Day & Inauguration Week

Friday January 22, 2021

The Mount Vernon Triangle CID thanks our community for uniting this past week and epitomizing our everyday #LIfeInMVT spirit through these showcases of art, service and community support:

New Mural: “Voices for Change”

On Monday, January 18, and in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service, which seeks to encourage Americans to volunteer to improve their communities, the Mount Vernon Triangle CID partnered with P.A.I.N.T.S. Institute and the owners of the property at 476 K Street NW to activate a large scale, public mural at the intersections of 5th & K Streets NW. Entitled “Voices for Change: Representation, Progress & Hope,” the commemorative mural – which serves as a celebration of community, arts and education – aims to unite and rally all Americans to work toward peaceful, positive change. The mural is a collaboration among local artists Shawn PerkinsLevi Robinson and Dez Zambrano. Check out photos and local and national media coverage of the mural via the links below, join the conversation on social media by sharing your own photos and videos, and stay tuned for more exciting news surrounding this artwork!

Volunteers Answer the Call for Inauguration Day Service

Nearly 30 residents – including Julia, Stephanie, Shannon (pictured left-right below) and Laetitia – quickly answered the call from MPD’s First District Citizens Advisory Council for volunteers to assist with serving meals to first responders and other personnel working the Presidential Inauguration. We know this effort was greatly appreciated by many, and can’t thank you enough for representing our community.

MVT Property Reps Mobilize for Inauguration Safety & Community Reassurance

Finally, we thank the owners, managers and operators of the publicly available surface and garage parking lots within our Mount Vernon Triangle community for taking proactive and defensive postures by either closing or significantly adjusting operations beginning late last week through Inauguration Day. Adjustments included restricting recreational and boxed truck vehicles; and restricting access to only those customers with 24-hour and monthly parking access. Our collective safety takes the partnership and support of all MVT stakeholders, and the quick mobilization in support of this community concern by the organizations listed below is greatly valued and much appreciated!
