Request from Pepco for Community Advisory Group Volunteers

Friday January 22, 2021

As you may know, Pepco will start construction on the Mount Vernon Substation in our neighborhood this year as a part of the Capital Grid project. The substation will enable Pepco to facilitate the capacity needed to maintain reliable electricity service as our community continues to grow.

As a condition of substation approval, Pepco has been directed by the Public Service Commission of the District of Columbia (PSC) to establish a Community Advisory Group (CAG) for the project. The purpose of the CAG is to provide guidance and recommendations on community issues regarding the substation construction phase and on topics, including, but not limited to:

  • future use of a land parcel located at K Street NW and New Jersey Avenue NW that is excess to the needs of substation construction;
  • development of artistic themes in support of the installation of placemaking components (such as decorative fencing);
  • guidance on construction operations; and
  • community feedback.

Pepco is currently seeking additional members to participate. CAG members will meet four times a year (quarterly) and be critical in providing feedback to Pepco and its contractors on construction activity and operations, placemaking interventions in support of streetscape activation, and future land use recommendations and guidance. All meetings are open to the public. Email Travoris Culpepper if you are interested in participating or have any further questions.
