Tuesday September 15, 2015

“Intriguing Past, Vibrant Future” is the theme for this year’s WalkingTown, DC tours of Mount Vernon Triangle on Sunday, September 20th from 10:00 AM to Noon and Monday, September 21st from Noon to 1:00 PM. Tours are led by Mount Vernon Triangle Community Improvement District President, Claire Schaefer Oleksiak. As one of Washington, DC’s most beloved and historic neighborhoods, participants will learn about the history and recent development of this lively downtown community just east of Mount Vernon Square, a few blocks north of the Verizon Center and just south of Petworth and other longstanding residential communities. Learn about its roots as the home of the original Northern Liberties Market and visit Prather’s Alley, one of DC’s original commercial alleyways, as you hear about the social and economic forces that led to Mount Vernon’s development, decline, and current revitalization. The tour will end with a rooftop visit.
