2fifty Texas BBQ’s Fernando Gonzalez Appears on DC News Now’s “Sunrise on the Hill” to Discuss Rising Meat Prices

Friday February 20, 2026

Earlier this week, 2fifty Texas BBQ Pitmaster Fernando Gonzalez sat down with “Sunrise on the Hill” anchors Hillary Howard and Cory Smith to discuss rising meat prices due to climate change and its impacts on local farmers and restaurants. With beef prices rising over 18% in the past year alone, Fernando sent a direct message to Congress saying “we need to advocate for conservation and sustainable food systems, and funding in agricultural policies.”

For Fernando and the team at 2fifty, “beef is not a side for us. It is the foundation of what we do”. They remain committed to using local, ethically sourced meats and adhering to a “non-waste mentality” by smoking trimmed fat for their meat tallow program, and using trimmed meats for sausages, burgers, and tamales — which are more affordably priced giving additional people the opportunity to experience their products.
