Yesterday, on a rather rainy Wednesday morning, MVT CID staff, donor Myrna Sislen, architect Andrew Pressman, FAIA, and key members of the Cobb Park project team held a small, intimate ceremony to commemorate the start of construction on the Start Cour Pavilion—a major milestone in the next phase of developing Cobb Park. It was an energizing – if not a little a muddy – way to informally celebrate the beginning phases of DC’s latest 1.2-acre public park, fittingly on the same day as Washington, DC was ranked #1 in the country for public parks by The Trust for Public Land for the fifth year in a row. Once completed later this Fall, Cobb Park will serve as an iconic open and artistic space, destination, and gateway into Mount Vernon Triangle and downtown DC that our community has continuously advocated for it to be.

Reflecting on the day, Ms. Sislen had the following remarks:

From the moment architect Andrew Pressman and I walked into [MVT CID President & CEO] Kenyattah’s office that fateful day in 2018, we dreamed of a beautiful new Cobb Park and its anchor, The Star Court Pavilion. Yesterday Andrew, Kenyattah, the entire project team, and I put our brand new shovels in the ground for the ceremonial commemoration of the Star Court Pavilion signifying the start of construction on Mount Vernon Triangle’s new community park. I can’t wait to see everyone at the ribbon cutting later this fall!
Myrna Sislen,Star Court Pavilion Donor

We thank Myrna for her continued support, our partners in the District Government including Ward 6 Council Member Charles Allen for their dedication, and to all of you for your continued interest in this project. We look forward to providing more updates as they come!
