D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center Helps Citizens Understand & Protect Their Legal Rights

Housed within the D.C. Bar’s newly built offices in Mount Vernon Triangle, the D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center is an independent, nonprofit organization that recruits, trains and mobilizes volunteer attorneys to provide free legal assistance to individuals, community-based nonprofit organizations and small businesses. In 2017, the Pro Bono Center provided services to nearly 17,000 District residents with its clinics, resource centers at DC Superior Court and other programs.

Here are just a few examples of the type of assistance that the D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center provides in support if its very important mission:

  • Advice and Referral Clinic: Held on the second Saturday of every month from 10am to Noon at Bread for the City – Northwest Center (1525 7th Street NW) and Bread for the City – Southeast Center (1640 Good Hope Road SE).
  • Consumer Law Resource Center: Provides free legal information to consumers related to debt collection, home improvement/independent contractor disputes, security deposit refunds, small claims cases, used car or car repair disputes, utility disputes, and violations of the Consumer Protection Procedures Act. Hours of operation are Wednesdays from 9:15am to Noon at Court Building B, 510 4th Street NW, Room 208.
  • Landlord Tenant Resource Center: Provides free legal information to both unrepresented landlords and tenants who have residential housing disputes in the District of Columbia. It operates Monday to Friday from 9:15am to Noon at Court Building B, 510 4th Street NW, Room 208.
  • Immigration Legal Advice & Referral Clinic: This quarterly clinic is held on Saturdays from 10am to Noon at Carlos Rosario International Public Charter School in Columbia Heights, 1100 Harvard Street NW.
