DDOT Releases Notice of Intent for K Street Protected Bike Lanes

Friday May 8, 2020

In support of creating more transit options for bicyclists in DC, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) recently issued a Notice of Intent (NOI) to install protected bike lanes on K Street from 7th Street NW to 1st Street NE. Public comment on the NOI including the preliminary design is open through June 5, 2020.

As stated in the NOI, the proposed protected bicycle lane location was identified as one of two priority corridors in the 2018 NoMa/Mount Vernon Triangle Bicycle Study. The purpose of the study was to assist in the formulation of scenario alternatives for enhanced bicycle infrastructure. Following multiple advisory committee meetings and a public workshop, the public was invited to review the study in July 2018 to learn more about the bicycle lane infrastructure’s potential benefits and impacts; and provide comments that would inform the study’s conclusions and next steps. With the study process now complete, the NOI phase is the next step for soliciting public input prior to the plan’s implementation.
