Inaugural MVT GroundWorks Project at Plaza West Connects Neighbors, Beautifies Community

Friday August 2, 2019

Approximately 35 residents, families and friends gathered on a sunny and beautiful morning last Saturday, July 27 for the inaugural launch of MVT GroundWorks—a new volunteer initiative designed to connect neighbors and fellow community members while also giving back.

The new program kicked off with a gardening event at Plaza West, an affordable intergenerational housing development featuring family and senior housing. The “grandfamily” component of the project has 50 units reserved for grandparents raising the children of family members who, for a variety of reasons, are not able to do so themselves.

This volunteer project was in support of providing a more welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere to building residents. As shown in these event photos, volunteers revitalized the landscaping in front of the property and planted new flowers and shrubbery—in the process enhancing the horticultural vibrancy at a key “gateway” into the MVT CID community. For more information regarding the strategic importance of MVT GroundWorks, check out the statement in the text box below from MVT CID President & CEO Kenyattah Robinson.

Throughout the year, we will host various opportunities for those wanting to get involved and lay the groundwork for future generations around the Triangle.
