MVT CID Welcomes DC Office of Planning to the Neighborhood!

Friday December 6, 2024

On Tuesday, December 3, MVT CID welcomed DC Office of Planning Director Anita Cozart and staff for an informative tour around Mount Vernon Triangle. Topics of focus included highlights such as:

  • Identifying areas in which the Mount Vernon Triangle CID, through partnership, has successfully implemented the Mount Vernon Triangle Action Agenda, published by OP in 2003 as the foundational groundwork for MVT’s eventual mixed-used development, wide welcoming sidewalks, and other efforts during the last 20 years to create a vibrant and livable downtown neighborhood;
  • Highlighting the successful implementations of OP’s “Streets For People” grant program, allowing OP staff to see first-hand some of the many improvements made throughout the last three years to Prather’s Alley, at Prather’s Plaza, along K Street, at the FRESHFARM MVT Market, and within Milian Park thanks to the grant support received; and
  • Musing on opportunities for future support on projects like Cobb Park; the concept for a promenade along the 3rd Street median to connect Mount Vernon Triangle’s rich past, vibrant present, and equally exciting future; the parking deck located at 2nd & I Streets NW; and – of course – dog parks!

The tour finished at A Baked Joint where members of the tour were greeted by a surprise encounter with Community Three Principal and Co-Owner & MVT CID Board Member Lynn Hackney. She briefly discussed with the group a status update on Claret, Mount Vernon Triangle’s newest condo building coming to the neighborhood—a moment that made real how OP planning decisions contribute directly to the growth of Mount Vernon Triangle and the city as a whole!

Check out some photos from the day below and thanks again to OP for joining us!
