MVT Spotlight: Capital View Hostel
Monday August 15, 2016
Six years ago, Capital View Hostel opened at 301 Eye Street, NW in Mount Vernon Triangle, offering visitors an inexpensive option for informal yet well-equipped lodging in a convenient location. This hostel is one of the multiple locations that hospitality company DC Lofty has throughout the city. Roma Matiukiene-Kursvietis CEO of company DC Lofty LLC, proudly tells us in this guest blog that the hostel has welcomed guests from 182 countries.
The Magic of a Hostel
After a long, hot and steamy day in Washington D.C., it’s time to relax and unwind. A group of people can be found cooling down on the rooftop garden under the stars. Some are seated in a circle playing giant Jenga, sharing exciting discoveries and the highlights of the day; some lay in the hammocks, relaxing by listening to soothing water trickling from the fountain beside them. Someone is making meaty American burgers on the BBQ . Somebody else is strumming a ukulele.
The cast of characters on this particular night includes a couple of young men from Pakistan here for a summer U.N. program, a Ukrainian girl exploring America for the first time on a work and travel program, an American taking a break from the grueling Appalachian trail and an Argentinian crossing America to finally reach her sister’s destination wedding in Chicago!
A hostel is a meeting place for travelers from around the world; a perfect setting for discovering the similarities and unique differences of the many cultures to be found on our planet. This is the magic of a hostel, which offers communal living for a fraction of the price of a hotel. Hostels have been popular around the world for decades, but are a relatively new idea in the U.S.
Our family-owned and operated company, DC Lofty LLC, was established on 08.08.08. Since then it has nurtured great relationships with many local businesses as well as with many repeat customers. In total we have accommodated guests from 182 countries from around the world. Whether they are eager tourists visiting the Nation’s Capital for a few days, or scholars doing research, they all get to enjoy being in a friendly, communal setting, able to communicate freely with “ambassadors”(guests that represent their country) from around the world, and learn cooking secrets from other travelers in the kitchen and taste recipes from around the world.
We have also established business relationships with embassies, tourism companies and over a dozen universities, including Georgetown University, with whom we have maintained a long term collaboration agreement. Our team members are experienced and highly professional, welcoming, knowledgeable and multilingual. They are eager and able to help guests navigate the city and recommend activities.
DC Lofty LLC has several locations throughout the city. Capital View is located at 301 I Street, NW in Mt. Vernon Triangle within walking distance of three metro stops (Union Station, Judiciary Square and Verizon Center/Chinatown) with incredible views of the U.S. Capitol building and a walkability rating of 98. Our freestanding red brick historical mansion has seen a lot of history, and now continues to make history by uniting people and cultures through the sense of adventure and through the hostel.
As you walk down 4th Street and I Street, you will spot our hostel and our flagship three-story mural, one of the largest in DC. Designed and created by Argentinian artist, Ever, the mural, which wraps two sides of the building is titled “Description Foucault’s Panopticon Theory and its Consequences”.
We feel honored and fortunate to be a part of this vibrant neighborhood and are trying our best to be a wonderful representative of the Mt. Vernon Triangle neighborhood, Washington, DC and the United States.
Capital View Hostel accepts groups of 15-40 people as well as solo travelers, volunteers and interns. For a fraction of the cost that travelers would pay to stay in a hotel, they can choose to share a room and have fun with other travelers from around the world starting at just $35-39/night. We also have corporate/extended stay business suites in a luxury setting nearby if you want to have all the comforts of home.
It would be our honor to host your next group or guests in one of our hostels.
Let your organization share in the magic of our hostel!
