MVT Supports Clean-Up During Shutdown & Recent Snow Emergency

Monday January 28, 2019

In support of our National Park Service (NPS) partners affected by the government shutdown, the MVT CID earlier this month responded to the call from Mayor Bowser and the Department of Small and Local Business Development – the District agency that funds approximately one-half of our Clean Team contract with Central Union Mission – to provide of trash pick-up and beautification services on the National Mall. Acting NPS National Capital Region Director Lisa Mendelson recognized the MVT CID for our support of the National Mall plus the six NPS small park reservations within our community, stating in a letter to MVT CID President & CEO Kenyattah Robinson:

On behalf of the National Park Service (NPS), I would like to thank the Mount Vernon Triangle Community Improvement District (CID) for your support in keeping our NPS sites clean and orderly over the past 21 days during the lapse in appropriations. Our NPS employees take tremendous pride in maintaining these national treasures. You and your staff clearly share that same commitment, and we are grateful for that assistance.

And the Clean Team again did the hard work of ensuring the MVT CID was walkable and open for business during the most recent snow emergency, clearing handicap-accessible ramps throughout the neighborhood and providing supplemental snow and ice removal on an as-needed basis.

These recent gestures are just two examples of how the Clean Team works hard every day in support of keeping MVT’s – and the District’s – spaces clean and welcoming!
