New Measures Announced to Help Combat Rapid Spread of COVID-19

To help combat the spread of the coronavirus and its Delta and Omicron variants, Mayor Bowser this week provided situational updates on Monday, December 20 and today, December 22 in which she outlined important new measures as part of the city’s COVID-19 Action Plan. These measures include:
- Expanding testing
- Reinstating the indoor mask mandate
- Instituting a DC Government vaccine mandate to include boosters
- Standing up COVID-19 testing and vaccination centers across the District
- Planning for a safe return to DC Public Schools following the winter break
- Instituting a proof of vaccination requirement for certain businesses
Beginning today, DC is launching a Test Yourself DC Express program whereby residents can pick up free at-home rapid antigen COVID-19 testing kits at eight locations across the District.
DC reinstated its indoor mask mandate that will remain in effect until 6am on Monday, February 28. Also beginning 6am on Saturday, January 15, 2022, the following types of establishments will be required to verify that patrons ages 12 and older have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine:
- Restaurants, bars, nightclubs
- Indoor cultural and entertainment facilities
- Indoor exercise and recreational establishments
- Indoor event and meeting establishments
