New Retail Options in Washington Convention Center Celebrate All Things DC

Friday August 6, 2021

The MVT area now boasts a Ben’s Chili Bowl and Shop Made In DC in the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, as Mayor Muriel Bowser led the ribbon cutting ceremonies for both grand openings while highlighting the #DCisOpen campaign. Ben’s Chili Bowl has been a fixture in DC since it first opened its doors in 1958 at its U Street location. Since then, it has expanded throughout the District and beyond. Family matriarch Virginia Ali, who founded the restaurant with her husband Ben, spoke to all in attendance.

Shop Made in DC is a retail dedicated to all things designed, crafted, and built in DC. Founders Stacey Price of People Make Place and Michael Babin of Neighborhood Restaurant Group addressed the crowd about their mission to highlight their more than 200 makers and nearly 5,000 products.

Just steps from MVT, these locations provide added value for anyone looking to immerse themselves in DC food, goods, and culture
