Our FRESHFARM MVT Market will once again be open this Saturday, November 7 from 9am-1pm at 5th & Eye Streets NW. Turkey Preorders. Thanksgiving is fast approaching, and Sunnyside Farms will be taking pre-orders for fresh, pasture-raised turkeys prepared to be refrigerated (not frozen) until Thanksgiving Day. Visit the their website to choose your pick-up location and pay your $40 deposit—or, visit the market this Saturday and let Dru handle it! You can also email her to learn more. A balance of $6 per pound is due when turkeys are picked up the Saturday before Thanksgiving, with each turkey averaging approximately 14 pounds.

FRESH Food Drive. Save the date of Saturday, November 21 for the annual FRESH Food Drive at FRESHFARM MVT Market. Through the FRESH Food Drive, FRESHFARM uses donations from shoppers and community members to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables and turkeys from local farmers for our vulnerable neighbors. The FRESH Food Drive has the added benefit of providing additional income to small farmers while ensuring that our neighbors in need have access to fresh, local, nutritious food. Details are still being finalized, so please stay tuned for more information once it is available.

FRESHFARM Feast. This annual fundraiser to advance FRESHFARM’s mission to support local farmers and grow our local food system goes virtual on Friday, November 13 at 7pm. Free for all to attend, the event will feature a virtual online cooking demonstration from Executive Chef Marcelle Afram of celebrated DC restaurants Compass Rose and Michelin-starred Maydan! Chef Marcelle will show you how to make a delicious, farmers market-sourced recipe using tips and tricks from the Maydan and Compass Rose kitchens. You can even purchase a special Feast Market Box filled with the market goods that will be used in Chef Marcelle’s recipe. Feast boxes are limited so order one ASAP! Boxes will be delivered directly from the farmers market to your home (within the I-495 Beltway) on Saturday, November 14. To learn more about the event and how you can support FRESHFARM’s mission to nourish our region’s food future and build a resilient and equitable local food system through your attendance and/or donation, visit freshfarm.org/feast.
