Pepco and DOEE Developing Connected Community Roadmap for MVT

Friday February 18, 2022

The District Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE) and Pepco have been meeting with residents and businesses to identify clean energy and technology solutions to save energy, advance solar, and achieve environmental and economic benefits to serve the community’s needs and interests about the Mount Vernon Connected Communities Initiative and are seeking to design a Connected Community Roadmap in partnership with community residents and stakeholders. Your input is needed as the roadmap will include innovative solutions to provide customers with safe, affordable, reliable, and clean energy.

Development of this collaborative and innovative roadmap stems from the 2019 approval by the Public Service Commission to proceed with the construction of the Mount Vernon Substation. The roadmap will target implementation in 2023, after the substation is operational, and will identify solutions to combat climate change, build resilience and modernize the local energy grid for the benefit of the surrounding community.

Here are two ways that you can engage:

  • Join Pepco for a Design Visioning Workshop on Monday, February 28, from 7-8pm. You may attend virtually or call (443) 529-0267; Conference ID is 614 376 786#.
  • Take their online survey to provide feedback regarding their initiative.

We hope that you are able to provide feedback and join Pepco for the Design Visioning Workshop on Monday, February 28.

PS. Pepco would also like the community to be aware that additional construction will take place along New Jersey Avenue NW beginning February 2022 through June 2022. The work will support the distribution of power from the Mount Vernon Substation to customers in the area.
