Update: MVT Chefs Step Up & Partner with World Central Kitchen to Support Furloughed Federal Workers

Friday November 21, 2025

In a follow up to the story we shared in our October 30 Triangle Times, we wanted to update our readers on some of the incredible work a few of our MVT restaurants and chefs contributed to World Central Kitchen’s efforts to serve over 100,000 free meals to federal workers during the historic 43-day federal government shutdown:

2fifty Texas BBQ
414 K Street NW
2fifty Texas BBQ Pitmaster Fernando Gonzalez shared on his personal Instagram that he and his team prepared over 2,000 meals and counting for Federal Workers including barbecued brisket burgers which are available as a special at the MVT location every Monday!

Chef Matt Adler of Cucina Morini
901 4th Street NW
As a member of World Central Kitchen’s Chef Corps, Chef Adler was instrumental in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the two distribution sites that popped-up here in Washington, DC. In a post shared on his personal Instagram page, Chef Adler reflected on his experience mobilizing fellow Chef Corps members from Maketto, Mandu, Bread & Water Company, Lebanese Taverna, RASA, 2fifty Texas BBQ, and others to serve thousands of meals daily saying in part, “Always in awe of the folks who immediately jump in to help. Especially our tight restaurant community in the DMV, who are without fail, always the first ones with their hands up whenever people are in need. Very much appreciate @wckitchen and the opportunity to help support our friends and community.”

Mandu
453 K Street NW
As a member of World Central Kitchen Chef Corps, Chef Danny Lee and his team at Mandu contributed to the efforts to feed furloughed federal workers.

RASA
485 K Street NW
The team at RASA are no strangers to working with World Central Kitchen — having closely done so during the Covid-19 pandemic to distribute healthy warm meals to families — so they were quick to step in and begin contributing to the cause! According to co-founder Rahul Vinod, at the end of the three-week operation RASA alone served an impressive 14,500 people!

We are so proud to have such community-minded businesses in Mount Vernon Triangle and hope you find a way to support any and all of the restaurants here in the Triangle especially as we move into the colder winter months!
