Women’s History Month Profile with Solana Vander Nat, Director of the Mayor’s Office of Nightlife & Culture

Friday March 25, 2022

All month, we’ve been featuring women who make MVT (and DC!) special. This week, we’re featuring the director of the Mayor’s Office of Nightlife & Culture, Solana Vander Nat. From our interview:

MVT CID: How long have you been involved with the Mayor’s Office of Nightlife and Culture?

Director Vander Nat: My tour of duty began November 8, 2021.

MVT CID: How do you feel having more women in government impacts the communities you serve?

Director Vander Nat: Having more women in government impacts the nightlife and hospitality community because it creates an opportunity for women to apply their knowledge and experience to serve as a key point of contact, liaison, and advocate for their industry’s stakeholders, and to positively impact DC’s nightlife and culture.

MVT CID: What advice do you have for women looking to get involved in government service?

Director Vander Nat: Ask questions. Reach out to your contacts who work for the government to hear firsthand what their experience has been like. Think about how you can apply your skillsets to the government. Research what opportunities are available. Go for it. Apply for that position that interests you. You’ll never know unless you try.

MVT CID: What is your favorite part of working with communities like MVT?

Director Vander Nat: Building relationships with the community members and  learning firsthand what makes their community unique.

Many thanks to Director Vander Nat for taking part in this week’s feature. And stay tuned for the final Women’s History Month profile in next week’s Triangle Times[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
