Back to School Drive – Backpack Filling Volunteer Event

Imagine the first day of school for a child with no supplies. No backpack, no pencils, no paper. For a child experiencing poverty or being unhoused, this isn’t just an inconvenience; it’s a profound feeling of being unprepared and unseen. It impacts their ability to learn, thrive, and feel like they belong. Every child deserves to start school feeling confident and ready.
That’s why we’re organizing our 2nd annual backpack filling drive on August 5th. To come together as a community and provide essential school supplies for children locally in need, supporting SOME (So Others Might Eat) Back to School Campaign. (Located just blocks away from our Washington DC Experience Center.) For over 50 years SOME has been a beacon of hope in Washington D.C. breaking cycles of poverty and homelessness. We will be supporting the work of DC Housing Commissioner, Denise Blackson who provides school supplies amongst other resources to over 400 children in the Sursum Corda Neighborhood NW. These Back-to-School campaigns directly empower children with the tools for success. Join us to make a difference.
