Happening Next Tuesday: Significant Traffic Pattern Change on New Jersey Avenue

Friday June 26, 2020

Heads up! As part of its long-term Safety Improvements on New Jersey Avenue NW project, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will be making a significant traffic pattern change on New Jersey Avenue NW and 2nd Street NW – between H Street NW and K Street NW – beginning on or about Tuesday, June 30. This traffic pattern shift is necessary to make the new signalized intersection operational at New Jersey Avenue NW, 2nd Street NW and I (“Eye”) Street NW, and to begin the next phase of project operations. Here’s a rundown of changes that should be anticipated:

  • Northbound traffic on 2nd Street NW will be redirected to the new signalized intersection at New Jersey Avenue and I (“Eye”) Street NW. From this new intersection, 2nd Street NW traffic will be able to turn north onto New Jersey Avenue NW towards K Street NW or continue straight onto I (“Eye”) Street NW.
  • Traffic controls will be in place to guide motorists through the work zone safely. Motorists should expect delays due to the lane closures and are advised to stay alert and be observant of signage and road work crews while traveling in this area.
  • Curbside parking may also be restricted while work is underway. Emergency No Parking signs will be posted a minimum of 72 hours before the start of construction. Sidewalk detours will also be in place while sidewalk repair is in progress. Signage and protective barriers will be used to maintain public safety.
