Meet Astrid Pleitez, One Half of the Husband & Wife Team Bringing Fresh Produce to the FRESHFARM MVT Market Every Saturday!

Friday March 14, 2025

In a continuation our annual Women’s History Month celebrations – that this year is focusing on some of our incredible women-owned businesses that you can shop on Saturdays at the FRESHFARM MVT Market located at the corner of 5th & I Streets NW from 9am-1pm – we are featuring Astrid Pleitez of Pleitez Produce Farm! Astrid comes from a proud long line of migrant farmers and dreamed of someday owning her own business. In 2002, with the help of a USDA loan, Astrid and her husband Alex began working eight acres of land and selling at two farmers markets. Now, 23 years later they own 100 acres in King George, VA,  lease 50 acres, and are in 19 farmers markets across the DMV. They also have 15 greenhouses where they can extend their season early and late, which is great news for our year-round market. The Pleitez’s also participate in the Department of Homeland Security’s H2A visa program, allowing them to sponsor 12 employees from Mexico and believe in giving back to their community through donations to local churches and to various food pantries.

In April 2024, Astrid revealed on social media (follow @pleitezproducefarm on Instagram!) that she was in the midst of undergoing a long battle with breast cancer. After multiple surgeries and several rounds of chemotherapy and radiation, we are happy to report that she is now in remission! We applaud her strength and resilience and wish her good health for many years to come.

Pleitez Produce Farm is an IPM and NON GMO/GES farm that is proudly family owned and operated. Be sure to shop their seasonal produce every weekend at the FRESHFARM MVT Market and say hi to Astrid and Alex the next time you see them there!
