MVT Celebrates Black History Month: Spotlight on MVT Photo Walk Exhibit “BlackHair” Artist Marvin Bowser

Wednesday February 18, 2026

Our celebrations of Black History Month continue this week with a spotlight on BlackHair Creator, Marvin Bowser. Marvin is a visual artist with a deep passion for storytelling through digital art, videography, and the lens of a camera which has led him to curate two solo gallery exhibitions, participate in group shows in New York and Art Basel Miami, and create a large-scale public art installation. Born and raised in Washington, DC, Marvin has always drawn inspiration from the city’s vibrant history and culture. He earned degrees from The American University and The George Washington University and carries the discipline and leadership he developed during his 10 years in the United States Air Force, the insight he gained from 6 years as a civilian with the U.S. Navy, and the strategic thinking he honed during 18 years as a defense contractor with him into his artistic practice.

We have been honored to host Marvin’s BlackHair photo series at our MVT Photo Walk located at the 400 block of K Street NW and Prather’s Alley for the last year. The exhibit uplifts and celebrates Black culture through the lens of black hair and talks to “black joy, love, beauty, strength, resilience, expression, and fantasy.” Join us and Marvin next Saturday, February 21 at Busboys and Poets for a special closing reception where Marvin will share his reflections on a year of BlackHair here in Mount Vernon Triangle and offer attendees a personal walking tour of the MVT Photo Walk. Learn more about the reception and register to attend on Eventbrite!
