Women’s History Month Continues with Margaux Donati of Bar Chinois

Thursday March 10, 2022

Last week, we kicked off Women’s History Month with a feature on Inspector Tasha Bryant of the Metropolitan Police Department’s First District. This week, we’re continuing our series with the General Manager and Partner of Bar Chinois, Margaux Donati. From our interview:

MVT: How did you first get involved in the restaurant industry?

Margaux: I was in college, studying psychology! I needed a job to support my spending habits and wanted to move off-campus so I needed to be able to afford rent as well. Growing up, my mom was a chef, and my grandparents were well-known restaurateurs in Paris. So picking up a part-time FOH (Front of House) job was a no brainer.

MVT: How do you feel the restaurant industry can benefit from more female owners?

Margaux: The empowerment of women and normalization of women in leadership roles in the restaurant industry is very important. The influx of women leaders will support the cultural change which is in motion, but still heavily needed.

MVT: What advice do you have for women looking to get involved in owning their own business?

Margaux: Do not let others intimidate or doubt you based on your gender. Successful women business owners should always work to empower other women and to support them. Do not shed your feminine qualities; treating your employees with care and compassion is not a weakness. Run your business the way you see fit, do not seek the approval of others.

MVT: What is your favorite part of the MVT community?

Margaux: I love the inclusivity of this neighborhood, as well the care and responsiveness of its leaders and businesses. I love and appreciate the support between its residents and businesses, and the friendly relationships. I am thrilled for the opening of any new businesses in our community!

MVT CID extends its thanks to Margaux Donati for sharing her views with us.  at 455 I Street NW is a wonderful spot to eat, drink, and be merry in the Triangle, so drop in if you haven’t already, especially on the weekends during their brunch service! Stay tuned for more features on the women who make MVT special in next week’s newsletter.
